"A mighty flame followeth a tiny spark." - Dante

You are about to move on to the next phase of
the journey. As you do, ask yourself, "Where
am I going?" All too often, individuals move
on from one phase to the next without asking this

simple question. If you look back at your four years at WHS and even your previous
school years, think of all the memories, both good and bad and how they impacted
you. Were you able to make a difference in your life, someone else's life or even
your hometown? You have had the advantage of great teams, wonderful writers,
strong academics, passionate dramatists and many other talented individuals within
an arms reach for many years. Were you able to learn anything from them? Were
you able to teach someone else a great lesson or share a wonderful idea? As I
approached a milestone birthday this year, I asked the same questions of myself.
Although positively reminiscent of the things I have done, I was not so impressed
by the things I should have or could have done. There is always more. As you
now move towards your dreams and your future, make sure you are able to impart
wisdom, lend a hand or just be a friend so that the rewards of life, the true, non-
financial rewards of life, continue to pay dividends long after you have moved on.

It has been my privilege to spend my first four years as a high school principal with
the members of the Class of 2008. You have taught me many lessons and always
made sure to rise to the occasion when asked. The future, although sometimes
scary, is limitless. Within your ranks may be the next person who impacts the future
of our state, nation or even the world. Make your mark! Build your foundations and
stand firm on the knowledge you take from your time at WHS. Set lofty goals and
always reach for the stars, for someday, they won't be so far away. I am proud of
you and will miss you all! Be great!

The 2008 Hourglass
Yearbook is dedicated to
the Senior Class Advisors,
Ms. Maureen O'Mara and Mrs.
Tara Ettinger.

In addition to their work as class
advisors, Ms. O'Mara is a truly
devoted guidance counselor while
Ms. Ettinger is a highly dedicated
math teacher. Thanks to the help
of these two outstanding individuals, the Class of 2008 has
enjoyed great success over the past four years. The various events that have
taken place during our time here at WHS would not have been made possible
without the hard work and dedication of Ms. O'Mara and Mrs. Ettinger. Making
calls, balancing budgets and working countless hours behind the scenes to
ensure memorable experiences for all members of the Class of 2008, these two
women have been there for us every step of the way. Due to the tremendous
support from these two amazing class advisors, the entire Senior Class was able
to have a truly wonderful time here at WHS.

To Ms. O'Mara and Ms. Ettinger,

The Class of 2008 truly appreciates your time and commitment. On behalf of the
class, we would like to say thank you for everything you've done. You truly made
our time at WHS a wonderful experience.

- The Class of 2008

The 2008 Hourglass Yearbook

The Class of 2008 has had great success and made
great achievements throughout their four years at
Wilmington High School.

Freshmen year of high school
is usually nerve-racking for
most, but the Class of 2008 hit
the ground running. The year started
out with class elections. Lou Cimaglia
was elected as Class President;
Kevin Carter, Vice President; Andrew
Valente, Treasurer; and Lauren O'Brien,
Secretary. Outside of Wilmington High
School, George Bush was re-elected as
President of the United States, the Red
Sox won their first World Series in 86
years, and oil was 50 dollars a barrel.
As the class became settled in their new
surroundings they showed everyone that
they meant business. With a little luck
and some hard work, only good things
were sure to come for the Class of 2008.

The sophomore year began with a
great start. Everybody's favorite Class
President, Lou Cimaglia was re-elected,
as well as Secretary Lauren O'Brien.
Sarah Turner was a great addition,
taking over as the Treasurer, and Joe
Foley stepped up as Vice President.
The school witnessed some stellar
athletic performances, including Vinny
Papageorgiou who was back for another
year as starting varsity keeper, as well
as various other accomplishments in the
arts, academics, and community service.
Overall, the sophomore student body
represented their class tremendously.
Sophomores also made a name for their
class in various other school events, with
Tom Barry winning the title of Mr. WHS
in the second annual Mr. and Ms. WHS
competition. Other unforgettable events
from the year included the Patriots
defeating the Eagles in the Super Bowl,
cementing their legacy as a dynasty
and the nation's incredible support for
the people of New Orleans following the
devastation of Hurricane Katrina. As
all this occurred around them, the class
encountered several new experiences,
including the infamous sophomore
research paper, the arrival of the one
and only Akshay Dave, and the taking
of the MCAS (and this time it counted).
Ultimately, it was a very successful year,
and the class has once again proved to

everyone how great the Class of 2008
could be.

The Class of 2008 kicked off their junior
year anxiously awaiting many important
events. With SAT's, college exploration,
and the much anticipated Junior
Prom upon them, the year was filled
with hard but rewarding work. Being
responsible and motivated juniors, they
were undoubtedly up for the challenge.
Tom Barry was elected as the new Vice
President, and the returning officers were
absolutely ecstatic in welcoming the
new addition to the class officer family.
Many fundraisers were planned, and the
budget for the remaining two years was
looking good. As prom season arrived,
the officers had a great deal of planning
and preparation to finish and could not
have done it without the support and
guidance of the advisors Ms. O'Mara
and Mrs. Ettinger, as well as the help of
the amazing prom committee. Needless
to say, the Prom at the Tewksbury
Country Club that late April was a
tremendous success and was enjoyed
by all who attended. With a great end to
the Junior year, the Class of 2008 was
excited for what would soon become
their Senior year.

The 2007-2008 school year was certainly
one to remember. Several varsity teams
made it into state tournaments, including
the soccer and basketball teams.
However, it was this year's Varsity Boys
Hockey team that rallied the school by
going on to play at the TD Banknorth
Garden for the state championship.
James Ham and Jessi Crowley were
crowned the new Mr. and Ms. WHS,
and Tom Barry and Krista Murphy were
named this year's Homecoming King
and Queen. The Senior Class had many
successful fundraisers, including the
sales of pies, Superfan T-shirts, and
chocolate roses. The Senior-Faculty
Basketball Game and the Prom Fashion
Show also helped to fund several senior
events, including the Senior Prom held
at the Westin Hotel in Waltham on
Friday, May 9th. Outside the walls of

Wilmington High School, John McCain
received the Republican nomination
for President while Hillary Clinton
and Barack Obama dueled for the
Democratic nomination, the Red Sox won
the World Series, and the Patriots lost
the Super Bowl in their bid for perfection.
It was a truly memorable year and
certainly one the Class of 2008 will never
forget.

All in all, the Class of 2008 saw some
incredible events inside and outside of
school, and as each student leaves here
in search of a new future, they shall
all remember the wonderful time they
shared at Wilmington High School.

Welcoming students back
to another year and
welcoming in the Class
of 2011, the annual Wilmington
High School Homecoming Dance
was held on Friday, October 12,
2007, marking the end of yet
another exciting Spirit Week. The

dance, held in the glamorous WHS
gymnasium, was a grand time for
all Homecomers. Requesting songs
and mingling with alumni, students
had a memorable time dancing
shoeless as the Red Sox defeated
the Yankees in an important playoff
game.

Homecoming had a large crowd this year; the
gym was filled with dancing students and WHS

alums.

During slow songs, couples, like Charlie Waitt and
Noel Silsbee pictured left, took to dance floor.

Starting off Spirit Week this year
was our traditional Class Day,
where each grade dressed to
a particular theme. The freshmen
enjoyed dressing in style for their
formal theme while the sophomores
got "goofy" as cartoon characters.
Causing many teachers' heads to
turn, juniors had a blast dressing

zany for their wacky-tacky theme.
But no one can deny that the
members of the Class of 2008 went
all out this year for their costume
themed day, dressing in everything
the mind could imagine from scuba
divers to Pop Tarts to Crayola
crayons.

Juniors show off their colorful tastes in clothing for p.
their Wacky-Tacky theme.

Below, Eddie Silva and Corey Tobin are dressed
up in their best costumes for the Seniors Costume

theme.

Super Seniors, Michael Pizzotti, Alyssa Brown,

a quick snapshot.

The second theme of this year's
Spirit Week was the classic
Army Day. Shades of green,
brown, and gray were paraded by
most while others dressed in nava
blue uniforms. Whether they were

clothed ready to fight in the war or
dressed rather to protest it, everyone
went all out for this day's theme.
Unfortunately, the camouflage colors
were not able to hide these students
from the teachers or their studies.

Two sides of our generation's war get along
fine side-by-side at WHS.

A first this year, Team Sports Day
was the third day celebrated
in this year's Spirit Week. For
this day, a variety of sports and
teams were properly represented,
from football to surfing to mini golf.
Professional team jerseys from the
Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics could

be seen (and a few brave souls wore
Yankees attire). Even mythical sports
were seen as Quidditch players
roamed the hallways. Although it
the first time this theme had been
presented, Teams Sports Day was
thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Fans of all sports show support for their favorite

On the final day of Spirit Week,
the whole school decked
out in blue and white, the
proud colors of Wilmington. In the
grand tradition of Blue and White
Day, students donned wigs and
boas, coated themselves with face
paint and glitter, and displayed their
school spirit proudly from class to

class. Closing out the day was the
big pep rally where cheerleaders
encouraged everyone to shout out
their spirit for WHS. This year's pep
rally included some of the week's
most spirited students competing
in a variety of games and the ever-
loved Seniors vs. Underclass tug-of-
war battle.

Cheerleaders put on an awesome display
of strength and spirit at their pep rally

Guys and gals competed on
Thursday, November 15,
2007 for the titles of Mr. &
Ms. WHS. The competition, though
tough, was friendly as competitors
acted out skits together and offered
helping hands backstage. While all

of the contestants were talented and
spirited, whether it be in dancing
or in wrestling a wildcat, only two
students went home with the prize.
In the end James Ham and Jessi
Crowley were crowned this year's
Mr. and Ms. WHS!

Kicking off the winter season,
the WHS Drama Club
presented this year's musical,
Footloose. Students of all grades
participated in this performance
with catchy tunes and lively dance
steps. The rhythm easily rallied the
audience into cheering along as
spectators of all ages savored WHS's

outstanding display of musical and
acting talent. The hardworking
members of the cast and crew put
on two exhilarating performances
on Friday, November
30th, and Saturday,
December 1st. Let's
hear it for the boy!

Prom fever is in the air at the
start of '08 as young men
and women come together in
February to put on this year's Prom
Fashion Show. Walking down the
catwalk were girls sporting the new
trends for prom dresses in addition

to must-have accessories and hair-
do's. The guys had their own share
of the limelight that evening, decked
out in their slick tuxedos. The Prom
Fashion Show certainly did its job of
fueling the fire for this year's prom
fever.

The Senior vs. Staff Volleyball
Game is a wonderful chance
for students to beat the faculty
in a fair fight on school grounds and
in front of all their peers, no less!
Alas, the students were the ones to
feel the sting of loss as the faculty

was able to defeat them. ..again. Yet
the night was not a waste to any, as
the tense atmosphere of the game
and the mishaps from both teams
provided entertainment for all who
attended.

I 7he female faculty and students faced off,
earning points for their teams. Although they
may not jump as high or be as tall as the
guys, the ladies still have game!

he Senior vs. Staff Basketball
Game was a great opportunity
for the seniors to get payback
against the teachers for their foiled
attempt at victory a few months
prior in the volleyball game. Despite
the students' impressive jumping
and dunking, the giants of the WHS

faculty triumphed in the end. While
the Senior Boys lost out 93-74,
the Senior Girls were able to win
with a 23-13 victory. Although the
faculty won when the scores were
combined, the night was still quite
enjoyable. Perhaps Class of 2009
will have better luck next year.

It was another successful year
for the Wilmington High School
Varsity Football Team. The
Wildcats achieved a record of
9-2, which was good enough for
a share of the Cape Ann League
title. Ernie Mello had a phenomenal
year at tailback for Wilmington,
amassing 29 touchdowns and
about 1,000 yards rushing. Fullback
Corey Groves was second on

<«u

the team in rushing and played
spectacularly from the linebacker
position. Led by the Mello-Groves
tandem and the remaining captains
Evan Borseti and Kyle Moon, the
Wildcats won two extraordinary
league games against Pentucket
and North Andover in the final two
home games of the season. It was
truly a memorable season for the
Wildcats.

fter losing 9 strong players
from last year, the Girls
i Varsity Soccer Team knew
they had to step it up, and that is
just what they did. Led by captains

Leah Potcner and Katie Cole,
the team qualified for the State
Tournament. The soccer team
impressed many people this year,
including their own coach.

Despite what the record says,
the Wilmington Varsity Field

year. The team worked extremely

Led by captains Sasha Reilly and

The 2007 Varsity Golf Team
had a great season, in spite
of what the record says. Of
course 2-9-1 is not the record one
would like to see, but it doesn't
necessarily tell the whole story.
It doesn't say how they tied a
respectable team or say that they
fell to another team by a single
point, and it certainly doesn't
account for the numerous times

Wilmington barely edged out in the
final decisions. With eleven young
men and one young woman who
loved to play the game and with
the excellent supervision of Coach
Steve Lynch, the team progressed
over the course of the season,
and despite the losing record,
Wilmington was nominated for the
Sportsmanship Award in the Cape
Ann League.

Coming off a Tsongas Arena
appearance last season,
the wildcat girl's team
played their way to the second
round of the state tournament
and an overall record of 15 and
7. The girls finished third in the
Cape Ann League and second in
the Nashoba Valley Tournament.
The girl's had a huge home court
victory over Stoneham High in the
first round of the tournament and
earned them the chance to face
Swampscott. Although Swampscott
won in the end, the team's final

record could not be overlooked.
This year's team was led by senior
co-captains Alyssa Brown and
Stephanie Sauve with significant
contributions from fellow seniors
Lauren Hitchins, Natalie Melkonian,
and Brittany Winchell. Members
of the Wilmington team earned
individual Cape Ann honors as Amy
Fahey made the All-Conference
Team and was joined by Alyssa
and Stephanie as All-Stars. With
the recent success of the program,
the future looks bright for the Lady
Wildcats.

This year's varsity squad made
school history, becoming the
first boys team to win the
Division 2 North Championship,
earning the team a trip to the
TD Bank North Garden for the
State Championship game. Led
by Captain Ernie Mello and Asst.
Captain Eric Siegel, the top seeded
Wildcats posted Tournament
victories over Danvers and
Peabody. The Division 2 North
Championship game featured a
heart stopping 4-3 shoot-out win
over arch rival Tewksbury in front of
a packed house at the Chelmsford
Forum. The game featured a 47
save performance from goalie Mike

Cabral, resulting in a game those in
attendance will not soon forget.

The Cats leading scorer Ernie Mello
and top goalie Mike Cabral were
selected to participate in the All-
Conference First Team. Forwards
Eric Siegel and Mike Enwright along
with defensemen Max Wilkins
were voted League All-Stars. Coach
Scanlon was recognized as the
Cape Ann League Coach of the

The Girls Varsity Hockey team
moved into a new division
this season. Starting the year
as strong as they could, the girls
never gave up. The seniors, along
with captains Colleen Magee and
Marie Pescatore and co-captain
Bridget Griffin, helped greatly as the
team struggled through the season.
Regardless of the final record, they
did not let this team fall apart.

Parents, coaches, and captains
supported the team immensely,
helping the girls to keep a strong
team in the end. The girls would
like to recognize the penalty box
for all of their hard work, time, and
effort they put into making this a
great team, and the underclass
members will miss senior captains
Colleen and Marie, two great
captains and friends.

Whether you're in track for
the love of the race or just
in it to socialize for an hour
after school, track is always a good
time. Our very own Coach Cripps
was coach of the year, training
the distance crew with Coach Joe
Martiniello who also did a great job
with the sprinting kids. The track
team went 8-1 in the regular season

with over 20 kids who made it to
the state class meet. This season
certainly paved the way for the
Spring Track team to go all the way
this year. For those underclassmen
participating in track next year,
look forward to the SPL, the Circle
of Doom, Silver Lake and filling the
big shoes that we have left for you.
Good Luck!

The Wilmington Academic Decathlon competes
with teams of students from high schools
across the state in a series of ten academic
events. These events cover Economics,
Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music,
Fine Arts and Social Science. Students are given
awards based both on individual and team
achievements. A unique aspect of the program
is that each nine-member team must consist of
three students each with "A", "B" and "C" grade
point averages. Students may be in any grade
and an unlimited number of alternatives may
also compete.

Bread and Roses is an organization open to all
students and faculty who want to help others in
need. Once a month, the group collects canned
goods, paper towels, desserts, cooked meals,
and other non-perishable items. All of these
donations are brought to Bread and Roses in
Lawrence, Massachusetts where those in need
may come to enjoy a good meal.

Supervised by Mr. Sundberg, members of the
chess club compete against one another in
intense games of strategy and wit. Members
hone their chess skills each week, and some
have shown dramatic improvement since the
year started. Because members of the chess
club have deemed chess to be a game of
thinking, the Wilmington chess club has given
itself the slogan "What's the hurry?" Games
often last over an hour with this philosophy.
The chess club has grown exponentially over
the past year, and new members are always
welcomed.

Club WHS is the community service club of the
high school. The club meets monthly and does
service projects on a regular basis. Club WHS
has a sub-division, known as the Cleaning
Crew, that cleans classrooms regularly. The
club often visits the Buzzell Senior Center
across the street to spend time with the older
generation of Wilmington, doing anything
from making gingerbread houses around the
holidays, to learning new techniques from a
pool shark. For the members, Club WHS is a
wonderful experience, each year forging new
friendships and long lasting memories.

The members of the WHS Concert Choir are an
extremely talented group of students who enjoy
challenging vocal harmonies and performing
all genres of music. Mr. Luciana works closely
with all members of the choir, working on
blending their voices and developing them to
give the choir a very professional sound. Choir
rehearses daily throughout the school-year
preparing for their annual winter and spring
concerts. The choir has also had the privilege
of performing in venues such as St. John the
Divine Cathedral in New York, and is looking
forward to continuing in their success.

DDR is a club originally run by Angela Wang,
Class of 2007. Taken over year by senior
Edward Silva, the club maintains most of its
unique qualities. With a handful of members,
there is plenty of time for everyone to play their
favorite four step game. Still played on a TV
in room 201, the music draws teachers and
students alike to come observe. We would like
to thank everyone who supports our group and
especially our advisor Mrs. Ettinger, for making
the club possible. Stay cool.

DECA is an association of Marketing Students
from around the country. The Wilmington
High School chapter, restarted this school
year, participated in business opportunities
and competition including the North Atlantic
Leadership Conference in Boston where
students met with Celtics Team President
to discuss Sports Management, as well as
competed in district competition and state
competition in business knowledge and role
plays. Students who want a career in business
describe the DECA experience as extremely fun
and rewarding.

The members of the WHS Drama Club are
dedicated students who love all aspects of
the stage, from performing in the limelight to
working on backstage crew. The Drama Club
was excited to kick off this year's season with
a musical production of Footloose! followed
by this year's entry in the Massachusetts
High School Drama Guild Festival, Antigone.
Drama Club also hosts a sub-group called One
Minute Too Many, the newly formed improv
group. Members are working hard to raise
money to further better the conditions of their
performance space and can't wait until their
next performance.

The newly-founded Environmental Club kicked
off the 2007-2008 school year by reinstating
the plastic and glass recycling program started
during the previous year. Composed of students
dedicated to the protection and preservation of
the environment, the club fundraised for its end
of the year Earth Week event, during which the
club added to the environmental beauty of the
school grounds.

Expressions is Wilmington High School's annual
Art and Literary Magazine. Showcasing student
art, photography, poetry, and fiction, the
magazine celebrated its fifth year anniversary
during the spring of 2008. All students
interested in publication and production are
invited to participate; members also help to
organize the yearly WHS Talent Show. The
Spring 2005 edition was recognized by the
National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
and received an "Excellent" rating — a feat
Expressions hopes to repeat.

The FLC gives students an opportunity to have
cultural experiences close to home. Through
food, films, games, crafts, related activities and
field trips, the FLC allows students to further
explore the knowledge they bring from their
own foreign language classes and provides
them with an introduction to other cultures as
well. Each monthly meeting has a different
country theme, which is chosen by the club
members at the start of the year. The FLC also
facilitates National Foreign Language Week
festivities.

This year the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA)
worked hard to promote equality and tolerance
throughout the school and town. With events
like the Day of Silence, World AIDS Day, and the
Transgender Day of Remembrance, students
tried to promote awareness of the issues
facing the entire generation as well as the GLBT
(Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender)
community. Now becoming a permanent fixture
at WHS, the club made a lot of progress this
year in presenting GSA issues to the community
and hopes to continue this progress in the
coming years.

The WHS Marching Band can be found
everywhere from Lake Winnipesaukee for Band
Camp in August, to Market Basket for the food
drive before Thanksgiving. Although the regular
schedule includes football game halftime
shows during marching season and concerts
throughout the rest of the year, the Band also
marches in local parades, performs in Disney
World, goes skiing, and contains the renowned
Jazz Band and new Pep Band, which is in its
second year and plays at basketball games.
The band is also looking forward to getting new
uniforms next year!

Wilmington High School is a member of the
New England Math League. Each month the
members participate in highly competitive
contests with other high schools throughout
New England. The club is open to all students at
every level.

Medical Careers Club provides students with
an opportunity to pursue their interests in the
fields of medicine and science. Through field
trips and job shadowing experiences, students
are able to learn more about their field of
interest. Also, MCC, teamed with club WHS,
coordinates many events with the Buzzell Senior
Center, connecting the elderly and youth of the
community. During the 2007-2008 school year,
MCC continued its annual fundraiser for the
Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund, raising
more money than ever before.

Over the summer the Mentor Leadership team
worked to pair mentors with all incoming
freshmen. After receiving training, mentors
served as orientation leaders to acclimate the
Class of 2011. In September, mentors and
freshmen reconnected at the Ice Cream Social,
where the mentors shared their personal
experiences with WHS extracurricular activities.
The mentors and freshmen also teamed up
again in the Volleyball Pizza tournament which
was very competitive! The freshmen were very
lucky to have such a positive group of strong
role-models to help ease their transition into the
high school.

The WHS Mock Trial team worked very hard
in a very competitive season. This year the
team faced off against Andover, Voyager's
Incorporated and Dracut and was 1-2. The
case revolved around Sexual Harassment in the
workplace. Matt Williams, Chris Holland and
Kevin Carter served as captains.

Model UN gives students the opportunity to
discover through simulation how the United
Nations works to collectively promote world
peace and cooperate on a variety of issues.
The main focus of the club is to prepare to
attend four or five conferences in which each
student is assigned a country and a council
of the UN which is debating a particularly
important international current affair and must
work to compromise and pass a resolution.
Students who enjoy politics, world affairs, other
cultures, debating, and compromise will love
Model UN.

Based on the principles of leadership,
scholarship, service, and character, the
National Honor Society is composed of students
who maintain an academic average of an 88 or
above and are dedicated to extracurricular and
service activities. During the 2007-2008 school
year, NHS conducted a competitive, school-
wide drive to collect items for Local Heroes,
an organization dedicated to supporting the
troops. NHS also hosted the Anton's Coat Drive
and volunteered at other school functions.

Rotary Interact is a club focused on community
service around Wilmington. Rotary gathers
about twice a month to discuss projects the
group has been given. Projects include anything
from volunteering at the Buzzell Center to
cleaning up around town. Some of our projects
include the Rotarian Auction, Santa's Breakfast,
and the Half Marathon that has taken place in
Wilmington for the past three years. Led by Jack
Cushing, this group hopes to make a difference
in Wilmington with every year that passes.

SADD is a peer leadership group dedicated
to raising awareness about the dangers of
underage drinking, drug use, impaired driving
and other risky behaviors. Members have done
a great deal to educate the WHS community
about the consequences of destructive
choices. Over the course of the year, SADD has
conducted an anti-smoking campaign, "Grim
Reaper" day, an annual mock crash, seat belt
safety surveys, and a drunk driving prevention
program. A bullying prevention program
created and performed by SADD members had
a powerful effect on fifth graders at the West
and North Intermediate Schools.

For those that wish to pursue science outside
the classroom, this is the place to be. Students
perform experiments of all kinds and engage
in fascinating scientific discourse and debate.
Projects have included catapults, rockets,
hovercrafts, DNA extraction, and the creation
of magnetic fields. In addition, the Science Club
visits off-site scientific exhibits, which have
included Body Worlds II and CSI: The Experience
at the Museum of Science. The students have
also enjoyed the presentations of a pathologist
at the Lahey Clinic.

Soundscape

Advisor: Mr. Jason Luciana

The Ski Club took several scheduled trips
to Nashoba Valley this year, where skiers,
snowboarders, and those wishing to become
such were encouraged to get some exercise
and have fun. At Nashoba, students could
also hang out at a tubing spot and defrost at
the Outlook restaurant before getting back on
the slopes. Lessons and rentals were available
for those not owning equipment, and a terrain
park and racing strip were there for the more
competitive and daring club members. Ski Club
is for everyone craving a laid-back yet fun-filled
trip after school. Club members always have a
good time.

Soundscape is in its fifth year of performance
and is an audition-only a cappella group
comprised of students who enjoy learning
more about music and how to use their
voices in new and exciting ways. Soundscape
students rehearse after school twice a week in
preparation for the many concerts they perform
in during the year. Soundscape has been
fortunate enough to work with professional
groups such as Vote for Pedro and Ball in the
House as well as St. John's Prep's a cappella
group, Swingtown. Soundscape members enjoy
having fun and being part of the quirky group
that they have become over the past few years.

After its 2007 trip to Italy, the Strings Attached
orchestra is preparing for its 2009 trip to

and the Woburn Country Club Heights. It
also organized a drive for the Wilmington
Food Pantry. This year, 27 Strings Seniors will
graduate from WHS. Best of luck to them all!

Student Council fosters positive relationships,
a spirit of community, and tolerance both
in and out of the school environment. The
organization is also dedicated to the spirit of
giving among the WHS community.

The Student Representatives embody a small
group of upperclassmen who meet twice a
month to discuss student issues and to plan
a presentation for each School Committee
meeting. The reports include activities, events
and school happenings. They are often asked
to comment on school related issues during
meetings so that School Committee members
can gain a student perspective. This year's
members include: Matt Williams, Kathryn Stone,
Alyssa Brown, Ashley Coates and Nicholas
Monteforte.

the School Committee

This year's Staff includes Editors Scott Oglesby
and Brendan Foley, Sports Editor Lou Cimaglia,
Assistant Editors Ashley Bresnahan and Erica
Savage and between 10 and 15 writers from
all four classes. Mrs. Beckwith is the Editorial
Advisor and Mrs. Shack is the Art Advisor. Four
issues are published: October/December/
March and May.

Sophomore Class Officers

Advisors: Mrs. Michelle Hooper and Ms. Tracey Kassin

The Senior class officers have had a very
successful year raising funds for the Class of
2008. The four officers, Lauren O'Brien, Sarah
Turner, Tom Barry and Louie Cimaglia, have
combined their efforts with the prom advisory
team to steer the class in a positive direction.
The advisory team consists of Krista Murphy,
Karen Nguyen, Korinne Ghafari, Lindsay Clark,
and Peter Tummino. Thanks to the work of
these nine students and the remarkable effort
and patience of class advisors Mrs. Ettinger
and Ms. O'Mara, the Senior Prom was a great
success, as were the rest of the senior activities.

The Class of 2010 is represented by Katia
Reilly (President), Kyle Bernardo (Vice-
President), Caleb Rogers (Treasurer), Liam
Gately (Secretary), Amanda Hollenbeck (Public
Relations), Cole Carter (Club Liaison), Randi
Davis (Community Liaison) and Dan Baima
(Administrative Assistant). This year's focus
has been on fundraising and charity work.
The class co-sponsored three successful
fundraisers- the Mr. and Ms. WHS Contest,
Spring Fling and Talent Show and raised money
for the ALS Association. Lastly, this year's group
also began plans for the Junior Prom.

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of
this year's editors and yearbook staff, the
2008 Hourglass Yearbook was a tremendous
success. Editor-in-Chief Leah DiNatale, Events
Editor Bethany Hanson, Clubs Editor Megan
Keane, and Sports Editor Krista Murphy spent
countless hours compiling write-ups and
photographs for the many pages of this book.
This year's Hourglass was also made possible
thanks to the service and support of both Hilton
Photography and Walsworth Publishing.

The Class of 2009 had a productive year thanks
to the hard work of class officers: Joe Cerbone,
Nick Monteforte, Lee Joan Villafuerte, and
Allison Yee, as well as the continuous support
from the class advisors, Mrs. Martell and Ms.
Smith and the determined efforts of the class
representatives. The cookie sales, bake sale,
prom fashion show, and Fuddruckers fundraiser
were the highlights of the year's successful
projects. The class worked hard to make their
Junior Prom an enjoyable and memorable
evening. The Class of 2009 officers are now
preparing to make the upcoming senior year a
truly memorable one.

of Wilmington High School would like to thank these two
outstanding teachers for their many years of service to the
town!

Ms. Smith has been a math teacher here in Wilmington for 35
years. Having previously taught at the Shawsheen, the West
Intermediate, and the North Intermediate, Ms. Smith has worked at
the high school for the past eight years. We all wish Ms. Smith the
best for a happy and adventure-filled retirement.

Ms. Nowak has been teaching foreign language in Wilmington

for her as she plans to spend more time with her family friends,
enjoying her hobbies, and appreciating that she no longer has to
respond to bells.

To Ms. Smith and Ms. Nowak,

Congratulations to you both on your retirement. We wish
you both the best!
